Contact The Birmingham Acoustic Band
Our unconventional ensemble of instruments (including ukulele and accordion) combine to create a unique folk/soul sound. If you're expecting a Mumford and Sons imitation, you're in for a big surprise.
We get the crowd up on their feet and feeling good taking inspiration from bands such as 'Earth, Wind and Fire' and 'The Jackson Five'. We perform and busk regularly around Birmingham so if you see us around, don't hesitate to say hello!
Originally, we all met each other through our university course in 2012. However, the collaboration really began in early 2015 in Madrid, Spain where we came together for several ensemble performances as part of our music studies abroad.
Upon our return to the United Kingdom, following the positive critical reception received in Spain, we decided to officially form a band and thus The Birmingham Acoustic Band were born.
Since our inception, we have had an impact on the Birmingham music scene and have been regularly performing at various venues such as The Devonshire Arms, The Litten Tree as well as often performing for functions for groups within Birmingham University.
Some of these have included 'Autumn Disruption' hosted by the Disruptive Media Learning Lab, Culture Night 2016 hosted by Culturae Mundi, TRACE photography exhibition and many more...
The Birmingham Acoustic Band are perfect for weddings and functions with their easily portable setup and own PA system if needed.
Armed with a wide variety of songs spanning from the 60's classics all the way up to present day chart-toppers, The Birmingham Acoustic Band have something for everyone.
Here are just some of the locations where we have been booked by clients on FixTheMusic fior weddings and events...
Callum
The energetic front man! He plays ukulele, sings, and dances if you are lucky. With a wide vocal range and charisma, he is bound to liven up any event. He is a highly experienced performer with training in Theater and Music. Vocally, he takes inspiration from Bruno Mars, David Bowie and Brett McKenzie.
Ryan
Bringing the beat that makes you move your feet! He contributes funky percussion in the form of a handmade cajón (ka-hon), which is fancy talk for "He hits a box". Ryan is also joined by his trusty sidekick "Monty" the foot-tambourine, adding another level of jingly goodness.
Nathan
The guy on keys, be it the accordion, or less common melodica. He spices up the sound with melodica solos and smooth accordion lines. He is arguably the nicest member of the band, which is an achievement in itself.
Christopher
This is where the buttery biscuit bass happens. He gets the groove going with his sometimes simple, or sometimes technically demanding bass lines setting the foundations of the funk which has become synonymous the band's sound. As well as this, Chris is a highly capable vocalist who idiomatically performs with soul.
David
The most defined caricature of the band with his stage name "Hot Chocolate" becoming a prominent feature of the group's mythos. His wit is only matched by humoured cynicism. He may not be the most talkative member but definitely has a way with words proving himself to be a poetic and dynamic lyricist. Doubling the guitar and vocals, he makes a mean duo of funky guitar riffs and a great falsetto backing vocal!
