Elinor Nicholson is an award-winning Scottish harpist based in Manchester who graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music gaining a Bachelor of Music with first class honours.
She has most recently graduated from the Masters of Music degree, graduating with distinction, continuing her studies with renowned harpist Eira Lynn Jones at the RNCM.
Recent successes include being named as a winner of the prestigious RNCM concerto competition resulting in a performance of Debussy’s ‘Danses’ for harp and string orchestra in the 2017 RNCM string festival. Elinor was also twice a finalist in the 2015 and 2016 RNCM Gold Medal Competition, the highest award that the college gives for performance.
Elinor regularly performs recitals with her saxophone and harp duo, the Polaris Duo, who recently were awarded second prize in the inaugural British Harp Chamber Music Competition.
Outside of RNCM projects, Elinor is passionate about performing music in community settings and her flute and harp duo, the Meridiem Duo, tours around the country for Yehudi Menuhin’s ground-breaking scheme ‘Live Music Now!’, performing in settings such as hospitals, schools for disabled children and elderly people.

"Elinor brought so much more than just her beautiful music to my event. Firstly, and I think very importantly, I found the booking process worked well through FixTheMusic, and I was quite happy that the details of where, when, what, how long and how much were all covered. Elinor went the extra mile and confirmed access details with the venue, and I was pleased that she not only arrived in good time, but was set up and ready to go without any fuss. I can recommend her for anyone booking a wedding or similar sort of complicated (and stressful) event, as it's one fewer thing to worry about. Secondly, Elinor presented herself well and engaged with my guests (something I had asked for her to do), and my guests all took an interest. I wanted more than just music, I wanted to learn about this instrument and what it's like to play it, and Elinor educated, entertained and informed us. My guests were queuing up to ask questions afterwards, and all were bubbling over with praise. Thirdly, it seems almost odd to mention it last, her music was wonderful, with each song more enchanting than the last."
– Glen Monks, 26th February 2017, booked Elinor on FixTheMusic for his private dinner party in central Manchester
"We just wanted to drop you a note to say thank you for Saturday. You played so beautifully and really did make our ceremony extra special. We also had so many comments from our friends and family about how wonderful you played."
– Sophie and Mark Tomlin, July 2016
"Classical and folk harp music provides an excellent complement to many communal occasions. Elinor Nicholson is an excellent exponent of the instrument and I have asked her to perform, at a number of corporate and social events, on behalf of client groups. She has a very professional approach, an excellent repertoire and a delightful manner. I would strongly recommend her."
– Dr Ged Drugan, Manchester Business School, May 2016
"We had our wedding ceremony in quite a large church space but were adamant that we wanted the sound of a single acoustic instrument to provide our music. The harp was perfect for the space and Elinor's playing was beautiful - she was happy to play all of our requests, from a traditional Irish folk piece to Lord of the Rings. It all worked perfectly and we would recommend Elinor without hesitation!"
– Gemma and Laurence Adams, January 2016
"I didn't hear you play much as I'd have liked (as for obvious reasons I was the last to arrive), but the feedback I have had from my now husband and many many guests that attended our wedding was that you played beautifully and how your music added to the ambience of the room in which we were married. Thank you so very much for playing some of the "less traditional" Music I asked for. I loved walking into Metallica's Nothing Else Matters being played beautifully by you, I'll honestly never forget that! Finally Darren loved the blast of Star Wars so Thank you yet again! He still says "I can't believe she did Star Wars, I LOVED IT"! Thank you once again, you helped make our day perfect!"
