The Civil Partnership Act 2004 came into force on 5 December 2005 and allowed partnerships to be registered from 21 December 2005.
The legislation to allow same-sex marriage in England and Wales was passed by the UK Parliament in July 2013 and came into force on 13 March 2014, and the first same-sex marriages took place on 29 March 2014.
Legislation to allow same-sex marriage in Scotland was passed by the Scottish Parliament in February 2014 and took effect on 16 December 2014.
Same-sex weddings continue to be blocked in Northern Ireland by the Democratic Unionist Party. To this end, we at FixTheMusic have signed the petition to end the veto on Marriage Equality in Northern Ireland.
