Wedding harpist cost in the UK

A frequently asked question is: "how much does it cost to hire a wedding harpist in the UK?"

The average price to hire a wedding harpist in the UK is £385. The exact cost will vary depending on various factors, including how long you hire the harpist to perform for, whether they have to charge any travel or accommodation expenses, the level of professional experience of the UK harpist, and whether they are performing at only one part of your wedding (e.g. the wedding ceremony) or multiple sections (e.g. your wedding drinks reception as well as the ceremony or wedding breakfast).

To find the best price for your wedding harpist, you will want to find a local harpist that is near you. Submit an enquiry on FixTheMusic and nearby local harpists will send you details of their prices and more information within a few hours. Finding a harpist for hire has never been easier.

Some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About Hiring a Harpist for Your Wedding or Event...
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between the types of harp available to book?

Harpists generally perform on either a full-size concert harp or a Celtic harp. A few harpists also perform on electric harps, which are especially popular at corporate events or award ceremonies. The concert harp is the most popular instrument and is probably the type of harp that most people imagine when they think of a classical wedding harpist playing. The Celtic harp is usually smaller and is often used to perform in more intimate settings and certain types of music, such as folk and traditional songs. Some harpists provide a cheaper quote if you book them to play the Celtic harp (usually because it is smaller and therefore easier to transport and move around).

What kind of events are harpists available to be hired for?

The most common type of event that our harpists are booked for is weddings. On FixTheMusic, the majority of our harpist bookings are for wedding ceremonies, where the harpist usually provides some music before the ceremony, while the bride walks down the aisle (the processional), during the signing of the register and then as the married couple exit the venue (the recessional). They are also frequently booked to provide background music during the wedding breakfast and reception drinks. Other types of events that our harpists have experience performing at include corporate events, awards ceremonies, memorials and funerals.

Can the harpist perform with other instrumentalists or musicians?

Yes – most of our harpists are available to perform with other musicians. Popular combinations include a harp and violin duo, harp and singer, harp and cello. But if you have any other ideas in mind, feel free to let your harpist know and they can usually arrange something for you. One of our most frequently requested combinations is a harpist & singer wedding duo.

Does the harp need to be amplified?

In most cases, the harpist will perform without amplification. For some large venues or events with a large number of guests, it might be advisable to provide the harpist with some amplification or a small PA system. It's best to discuss these details in advance with the harp player as the requirements could have an impact on the quote.

What will the harpist wear?

The harpist will likely wear formal clothes, suited to the occasion. If you have any particular clothing requirements or requests, please let your harpist know.

How much space does a harpist need?

If the harpist is performing on a full-size concert harp, they will need around 3m x 5m of space. Bear in mind they will also need room for their stool and a music stand, as well as the harp itself of course.

Do I need to provide anything for the harpist?

Most harpists will bring everything they need to perform and arrive self-contained. However, some may ask you or your venue to provide an armless chair for them to sit on. Depending on how long they perform for, they would also expect to be provided with some food and soft drinks or water.

My wedding ceremony is taking place outside. Can I still hire a harpist?

Yes, of course. Most harpists are happy to perform outside – and there's nothing more civilised than enjoying a champagne reception accompanied by an elegant harpist. However, the harpist would need to be provided with adequate shelter from the elements. The instruments are very expensive and delicate, and can easily be damaged by exposure to sun or rain. They would also need a hard and flat surface to set up on.

My ceremony and drinks reception are in different areas of the venue. Can the harpist still perform during both parts of the wedding?

This is a very commonly asked question. The harpist can certainly perform during the ceremony and drinks reception, even if they take place in different locations. But please consider that the harp is a very large instrument and moving it up and down stairs can be difficult, and in some cases impossible.

What styles of music will the harpist perform?

The majority of harpists will have an extensive repertoire of classical music. Increasingly, however, harpists are requested to learn arrangements of pop songs, especially for weddings. Other genres harpists will perform include jazz, folk, opera, Disney and Bollywood. If you have any particular pieces of music or songs that you'd like your harpist to perform for you, let them know in advance and they will always do their best to accommodate your requests.

How long will the harpist perform for?

The length of the performance will depend on which part of your wedding or event you book the harpist for. For example, if you hire a harpist for your wedding ceremony, they will provide music for all the key moments, as mentioned above. However, if you book the harpist for your drinks reception or another less structured part of your event, they will usually perform in sets of around 40 minutes or 45 minutes, with short breaks in between each set.
