About Adam Southall

Adam Southall FixTheMusic

Adam co-founded FixTheMusic.com in late 2015. From day one, Adam has worked full-time on FixTheMusic, having a hand in several aspects of the startup.

He can often be found crafting the profiles for our outstanding musicians and is the point of contact for musicians wanting to update their profiles.

With over a thousand bands and musicians on the site, this keeps him fairly busy! Adam is also a keen blogger.

A renowned expert on popular and classical music, his blog posts and articles are shared widely on social media.

In particular, his popular "Top 10" blog posts with regard to local wedding bands in destination wedding locations are regarded as the industry standard for finding the best talent in the area, and these band lists are especially important for local wedding planners in several key destination wedding locations, including Tuscany, Puglia, Rome, the French Riviera, Paris, Bordeaux, Spain, Portugal, Croatia, Greece and Malta.

He has also written several industry-standard articles on other topics, such as public liability insurance, portable appliance testing of musical equipment and music copyright law.

Several of his articles have been referenced on Wikipedia, for example his blog post on sound limiters at wedding venues.

Adam studied Music at Christ's College, Cambridge University.

The course covered a broad range of music, from medieval plainchant to blues, and a great range of approaches to thinking about and understanding music, from advanced analysis to the study of music and science.

Before university, Adam had achieved Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) Grade 8 piano, trumpet and cello, performing as a soloist and with several chamber groups and orchestras, including the Channel Islands Youth Orchestra and the Jersey Symphony Orchestra.

He also performed regularly at weddings and corporate events as a pianist, organist, trumpeter and as a cellist in string quartets.

Adam was a finalist at the Jersey Young Musician Of The Year 2002, performing on piano. He performed over several years at the Jersey Eisteddfod, memorably in a cello quartet with his three brothers.

At Cambridge, he was a trumpeter for the prestigious Cambridge University Chamber Orchestra, as well as Cambridge University Musical Society. With the latter, Adam took part in a tour to Boston under the baton of Stephen Cleobury.

He conducted the Christ’s College Music Society in a performance of one of Handel’s organ concertos with soloist Simon Jacobs.

As an organist, Adam accompanied church services, weddings and funerals, particularly at St Brelade’s Parish Church in Jersey. He also sang in the choir of St Helier Parish Church for several years.

He has worked for J&A Beare, a world-renowned dealer of fine stringed instruments. Adam was often required to transport instruments worth several million pounds – instruments crafted by expert luthiers such as Stradivari, Amati, Guarneri del Gesù and Vuillaume.

He went on to co-found a website (violinstringshop.com) for buying strings and accessories online. This proved to be a huge success and is still fondly remembered by clients throughout the world.

Adam then decided he wanted to become an accountant and started studying the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). Having self-tutored and passing the first six exams, he realised his destiny lay elsewhere.

Adam has perfect pitch and can be relied upon to recruit only the best wedding bands and musicians to FixTheMusic. He is meticulous in his standards and knows exactly what wedding couples and corporate clients want with regard to live music for their events.

He is also an accomplished composer, having written music for piano, cello, trumpet, string quartet, organ, oboe, solo voice and choir. He composed music for ITV's 2005 production of Thomas Hardy's novel Under the Greenwood Tree.

Adam is thrilled to have so many outstanding wedding bands on FixTheMusic and to be working with some of the most hard-working band managers throughout Europe.

He has a love of several genres of music, from the motets of Palestrina to the symphonies of Beethoven, from Greek folk music to 90s pop & rock.

Adam lives in Hove (East Sussex) with his partner Melina and daughter Alex. Outside of work, he's a keen pianist, cyclist, amateur chef and chess player.
