What are the different Sax/DJ packages you offer?
The main packages I offer are the Basic, Standard and Complete packages. I also offer sax only packages (part day / evening or full day).
How long will your performance be and how long will you play sax?
The usual layout for performance times (depending on your chosen package and event) would be, as required:
What kind of music can you play?
Anything and everything! I can DJ and play sax to any style of music, including but not limited to pop (radio chart and dance), house (deep/ classic/ tropical/ chilled/ commercial/ sax house), R&B and hip hop, swing/ jazz, motown, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, rock, drum n bass, garage, cultural music (Spanish/ latin/ tango, Indian, Scottish, Chinese) and more! If you have pre-booked another DJ I can guarantee I will be able to free style over any music the DJ plays.
How do you do both Sax and DJ at the same time?
In the evening, I will be DJing and playing sax live throughout the night. All DJing is mixed, beat matched and based on your requests and reading the crowd. I will be playing sax throughout the DJ set, getting involved on the dance floor, and interacting with the audience as much as possible! During the night (depending on your chosen package) I will often have a DJ accompaniment who will DJ for me whilst I am playing sax on the dance floor- usually only 2 or 3 songs at a time. However if I am performing solo, I will be playing sax and DJing all the music myself, which means performing shorter sets on the dance floor with the sax before returning to the booth to mix in the next song. If you have booked the advanced package, throughout the day I will also be playing sax alongside backing tracks or pre-mixed DJ sets with background music played through a speaker. If you would like to discuss a bespoke package including live DJing during this time please let me know.
Can we decide what music is played throughout the day and night?
Absolutely! You are free to decide on as much of the music selection throughout the day as you would like. Once the booking is confirmed I will ask you to complete the entertainment form which is a short document in which you can select your preferred genres throughout the day and night; this should take no more than 5-10 minutes to complete. Depending on your chosen package you will have a certain amount of special requests which I will learn for you. For further detail on music please refer to the Sample Evening Playlist and my Sax Repertoire. You will be able to pick as many songs as you would like from these documents. If booking the Standard or Advanced package, I would also ask you to put together a request list for the evening DJing; ideally this would be between 50-100 of your favourite songs you would love to have played on the night. The best way to do this is via Spotify (you do not need to have the paid version to do this); simply create a playlist and make sure it is selected, then click the 3 dots next to the “play” button, and select share > copy playlist link. You can then paste this into an email and forward to me.
What sets you apart from a standard wedding DJ or band?
As a full-time musician, music producer and DJ, I strive to ensure that you will have the very best experience possible on your big day, be that your wedding, birthday party or corporate event. Having performed at 500+ events since becoming a professional performer, I have had experience playing at most wedding venues across the UK and to hundreds of different crowds, with different backgrounds, musical tastes and ages. I have performed for celebrities, mayors and huge corporations and I bring this level of experience to each and every event I perform at. As for my instrument, I have been playing the saxophone since the age of 9 and have the highest grade of musical achievement, grade 8 with distinction. I graduated from Chetham’s School of Music, one of the UK’s most prestigious music institutions, having won the Music Tech award and being the only student to record and release a full jazz album at the age of 18. Because I have no other commitments other than performing, practicing, creating music and other music-related activities, it means I am able to improve on my skill every day and I can devote all my time and attention to giving you the best performance possible. I can play sax and DJ in every popular genre and this versatility means that I will be able to accommodate any specific musical tastes you may have. Unlike many mobile DJs or bands, I do not have a “standard set” for a night and each night will be completely different, based on what music the crowd is responding to and your own personal preferences. The Sample Evening Playlist is there to give you a wide range of choices in deciding exactly the kind of music you would like to hear on the night. In addition to this, the setup I provide is exceptional in regards to the quality of music and lighting equipment. All equipment I use throughout the entire day and evening is of the highest standard; the kind of equipment used at concerts, festivals and clubs. I endeavour to make each party I attend a truly unforgettable experience and I will ensure that your every wish is met and expectations exceeded throughout your special day!
Can we book extra hours?
Yes, please let me know if you would like to book extra hours and I will send you a quote, or if you would like to book extra hours on the night, please bring cash as this will need to be paid prior to the extra hour starting.
How long are your breaks between sets and do you provide background music during this time?
During the drinks reception breaks are usually 10-15 minutes long; however there may be a longer break if you are having group photos as sax is usually not suitable during this time. During the wedding breakfast I usually play 2x20 minute sets with breaks in between for speeches etc. Yes, background music is always provided between sets!
Can you provide additional musicians i.e. Singers, Bongos, (Electric) Violin?
Certainly! I have a wide selection of musicians I work with and manage through the two agencies I own, so please do let me know if you would like to book an additional musician and I will send you through my top recommendations.
Will it be required for you to make a site visit, a meeting with us in person or a phone call?
Site visits will not be required - as long as the venue has access to power, and a sufficient, safe space for the equipment this will be everything needed to ensure a great performance. I understand that there is a huge amount of time and effort involved in wedding planning and therefore I have tried to make everything as easy as possible for you. If you do need to go through any details and you feel it will be easier to call, just let me know and we can schedule a time to go through everything.
How many meals/ what type of meal will you require and do you have any dietary requirements?
Please provide 2 main meals for myself and my assistant DJ if booking the Standard/ Advanced package. If booking a sax only package please provide one main. One lactose & gluten free for me if at all possible - my assistants will usually eat anything! Please reserve main meals for before the evening party begins (usually during the wedding breakfast), as during the evening we will be focused on performing.
How much space and power do you require and do you require a stage?
Please allow 9ft width by 3ft depth for the DJ setup. Also please ensure that there is a hard flat surface with a level gradient for safety of the equipment. At least 2 metres of height is required to be able to fit all the equipment inside the room. Power wise, please ensure that there is at least 8000W of power available, or two separate power sockets from different points. A stage is not required, although if you have access to one then it is suggested.
Our venue has a sound limiter - will this be an issue?
No, I have worked in plenty of venues with sound limiters before. This is usually fine, however, if the limit is set very low, then the subwoofers will not be used in order to make sure the limiter is not triggered. This would also generally be the case for very small events with 60 people or less where the extra volume is not required.
We have booked the Standard package but we need you to be set up earlier, will this be OK?
Yes, I can accommodate this, however there will be an additional charge for early set up (i.e. before the wedding breakfast). In this case I will be happy to provide background dinner music and a microphone for speeches if necessary. Please let me know if you would like me to add this to your booking.
Do you normally use backing tracks without lyrics or play over the original tracks?
The answer to this will vary depending on the type of event, genre of music, and section of the day. During the ceremony I will usually play alongside backing tracks (no lyrics) unless you have requested that I play over the original tracks, or if the tracks will be more suitable when played with lyrics. During the drinks reception and wedding breakfast I will usually play alongside backing tracks. An exception is made for chilled house in which I would play over the originals. During the first dance (and father daughter dance if applicable) I would recommend playing the original track with sax accompaniment if desired. During the party I will play sax accompaniment over the original tracks, unless you have booked a vocalist, in which case I will play alongside the backing tracks with the vocalist.
Do you normally play sax during the wedding breakfast and what background music options are there?
The answer to this depends on your own personal preference and the layout of the room in which you will be having the wedding breakfast. Some clients prefer to have the sax during the drinks reception and/or ceremony, then have quiet background music during the wedding breakfast, and then have sax again in the evening party. If you would like me to play during the wedding breakfast, there will need to be enough space in the room to have a speaker set up for live music, with enough space between the speaker and the tables. Also please bear in mind that it will be significantly louder nearer the speaker and the sax than on the opposite side of the room, so you may want to plan the seats accordingly. The standard options for background music during the wedding breakfast are Live lounge/ acoustic throwbacks, chilled house, classic wedding type music (old classics, popular love songs and ballads), or jazz and swing. If you would like sax during the wedding breakfast, the background playlist will be played in between sax sets. If you would like a different genre of music please let me know.
What do you usually wear to an event?
My standard attire for weddings, parties and corporate events (during the evening) is a smart blazer, dress shirt, smart black jeans and smart black shoes...something like this. If booking for the full day, I will usually wear a suit for the first part of the day. If you have personal preference for me to wear a specific suit, tux or similar for the first part (or all) of the day please let me know.
How long in advance do you need to know special requests for the sax?
You can pick as many songs as you would like from my sax repertoire. I learn all songs from memory, so if you have special requests which are not on the repertoire, please let me know the requests at least one month before your event date, preferably more if you have more than 3 requests.
Are you happy to make announcements throughout the day?
Yes, I am happy to make any announcements you should require throughout the day, such as introducing the married couple into the wedding breakfast, introducing the speeches, and anything else which you may need to have announced. Besides announcements, please do let me know if you have any special requirements or anything at all which you would like me to do for you on your special day. It is my goal to ensure that you have a perfect day, so please don’t hesitate to ask if you need anything!
"We couldn't have been happier with Danny at our recent engagement party. He was absolutely incredible and he took the party to another level. The guests have not stopped talking about him. The whole set up with the lights and DJ really adds a great atmosphere and excellent value for money. We can't recommend Danny enough and we can't wait to get him back for our wedding."
"Danny, I just wanted to drop you a note to say a massive thank you for putting on a wonderful party for us last Friday. My only regret was that I wasn't on the dance floor more! I hope our friends weren't too annoying with requests etc but I know that they loved the saxophone playing. Thanks once again!"
"Thank you so much for playing and DJ’ing at our wedding recently - you were amazing from start to finish, so easy to work with and really brought the party! Everyone mentioned to us how fantastic you were and we, as well as the venue, will definitely recommend you in the future!"
"Hey Danny, Just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for playing at our wedding, you really made the day. Having our guests up singing along to Angels before food had even finished was a real highlight. Everyone was commenting on how amazing you were and we have had lots of requests for your details. Just need to think of another party excuse to get you booked in again! Thank you so much - it was unreal! Emily & Oli."
"Hi Danny, I just wanted to say a massive, massive thank you for being our DJ! You were amazing and everyone thought the same!! I will recommend you to anyone that is ever looking for a DJ and I am sure I will be in contact again at some point! Thank you so much!!!"
"Danny was absolutely brilliant! He listened to everything that we wanted for our day, and certainly delivered! We were very happy - and my guests absolutely loved his skills with the sax! We all thoroughly enjoyed our wedding day. Kind regards, Aneesa & Ollie."
"Hi Danny, great to finally meet you last night. It's been a long day today, but just a quick note to say last night was everything we hoped it would be. Thanks so much for your efforts it was amazing. Facebook is awash today with footage of you playing and our feedback has been incredible. Stay in touch, and we will definitely be using you again. Thanks again mate, Neil."
"Danny was amazing from the start. I had a massive banquet wedding of 500 guests and needed great entertainment. Danny being a saxophonist and DJ was exactly what I wanted. You're always worried if they are good when booking online however he has many great reviews and I listened to all his tracks online and also followed him on Facebook and generally felt he would be perfect for my wedding and get the guests dancing. Danny communicated great with me - he suggested having slow sax wedding songs to play throughout the dinner section and he will DJ/sax during the party part. I wasn't too picky with song choices and stuff and completely trusted him to do his thing. As our crowd was mainly Chinese he understood certain music types weren't suited and played songs which everyone enjoyed singing and dancing to, the more commercial stuff. On the day he was very professional, set up everything himself with his roadie and linked to the restaurant speaker and I did not need to worry about a thing. His sax set was amazing and everyone really enjoyed it and it set a lovely ambience. He also helped prepare the microphones for the speeches and MC throughout the day to let the guests know what was happening. The Party DJ set was the best part of my night. He got the guests dancing on the dance floor and joined in with us when he was playing the sax. I really could not have asked for anything more and it went absolutely perfectly. Being the bride I literally did not have to worry anything about it and he really did make our wedding special. The guests all loved the entertainment from Danny and his lovely roadie. I have recommended him to all my family and friends and will definitely book him again for my 30th birthday."
"Hi Danny, Thank you so much for Saturday. You were amazing!!! Had so many people compliment you and ask for your contact details, you really helped make our night extra special!! If I have any good pics I'll send them to you x"
"Hello Danny, me & Charli just wanted to say a huge thank you for playing our wedding reception last Saturday night. We had a great night and you were amazing! Lots of people have been asking us where we found you!! A huge thanks from us both, you were very impressive. Apologies for not being in touch sooner it's been a mad few days (we flew to Sri Lanka on Sunday). Hope to see you again in future, Ant & Charli."
"Hi Danny, just to say a massive thank you for Saturday night!! Sorry we haven't been in touch sooner we are in the Maldives. Everyone is talking about the wedding and how amazing you were! Great job mate! Really made the night! Think you might be getting booked up for a few more weddings soon!! I will write reviews on all of the sites you're on and will send videos and photos to you direct so you can add which ones you want, thank you for playing another hour and thanks again mate top night!"
"Hi Danny, I just wanted to say a huge thanks for last night. I've been absolutely bombarded by people complimenting you (as well as your DJing skills..) and I think we can all agree that it was a night we'll all remember for years to come. You managed to capture the mood so perfectly, as well as the essence of our year in general, so thank you for making the night so special and helping us say goodbye to each other in such a wonderful way. I hope you had as much fun as we did. On a personal note, I've never planned an event before, and whilst the whole experience was rather terrifying at times, I never for a second doubted that you would let us down, so thank you for making the whole process so seamless and easy. If I ever find myself in need of a DJ again, I promise you'll be the first person I call! All the best, Ammaarah."
"Danny is not only a talented Sax player and DJ but a true gent. His energy and professionalism coupled with the amazing playlists put together both on the Sax and for the DJ sets made for the most amazing party!! All my guests are raving about Danny and cannot wait to see him back at my wedding."
"Danny is an exceptionally good saxophonist. He is very nice and always behaves professionally. He has a very good feel for the mood and adapts the music accordingly. We would book Danny again."
"Hi Danny, Just wanted to drop you a quick note to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for all the work you and Jayden put into making our wedding reception so amazing. Your set up with the starlit booth and speakers gave us both a wow moment when we peeked at the room before our reception The sax during the meal was so beautiful and really helped to calm our nerves after the rush to get ready and the excitement of the ceremony. I did not come off the dancefloor all night, or have any wedding cake or buffet, because I was having such a great time. I had planned an outfit change but in the end I didn't want to miss a single track! Thank you for playing all of our requests, and your suggestion for the last track of the night was magic. Our guests are still talking about what a fabulous evening they had. We hope you both enjoyed it as well. Best wishes, Charlotte & Stephen Nelson."
