The pub quiz just got an upgrade with this highly interactive virtual music quiz with live music from a friendly host.
Available on major conferencing platforms, quizzes can last from 30 minutes to one hour. If time is of the essence quizzes, or internet connections an issue, the quiz can be pre-recorded. Answers can either be read out at the end of the show or sent out as a PDF to guests.
This is your special event, and the quizmaster will liaise with you beforehand to determine the tone, theme and level of difficulty of the questions. The fun rounds include:
Kazoozies At The Movies
A live performance round in which our host plays a song made famous by a particular movie. Instead of singing the words, the tune is played on a kazoo. There are three points per question: the song title, the artist and the movie name.
Gone in 60s
Using studio broadcasting software, the host displays images of famous people for less than one second, and guests have to say who they saw. There is one point per question.
Live performance round in which the music of one song plays, but the words of another track are song top of it. Your guests get one point each for the song title, the artist of the melody, plus the song title and the artist for the lyrics.
The audience hears a 'doctored' sample of music – this is either reversed or pitch-shifted, or similar – so that it's hard to recognise what the original was. Guests have to name the artist and song. There are two points per question.
A picture of a celebrity's body with a different musical celebrity's face displays on the screen. Guests have to identify both stars. There are two points per question.
These are usually interspersed throughout the quiz (i.e. between rounds). They are general knowledge questions which flow as wordplay out of an initially 'musical' topic. So, for example, It's been 14 years since Muse's single 'Starlight' peaked at number 13 in the UK charts. Can you tell me how long it's been since the starlight we see from the earth's nearest star was originally emitted? (This is all delivered deadpan over a 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire' style musical bed). The trivia round offers an opportunity to liven up the quiz and keep it interesting for some people who might not know very much about music at all. There usually is only one point per Trivial Teaser.
Big Theme Mashup
The finale can be a two to three-minute mashup of songs all performed live with a theme that links them all. A theme could be anything: a word in the song titles, a common nationality to the artists, a year of song release, etc. Guests have to identify as many songs/artists as possible and identify the theme. The round is often played twice.
The final part of the show is the emcee revealing the answers. Guests can enter their responses into a Google Form as they go or the host can check answers.
Alternatively, a colleague checks, while the host tells the answers to the guests. Either option is ideal for clients who want to know who has 'won' the quiz.
Otherwise, guests mark their answers. For a large number of guests who wish to the answers marked correctly and they want to know the winner there, and then the host can play one or two bonus rounds.
'Fastest Finger First' consists of snippets of songs and suddenly stop, encouraging guests to be the first person to type the correct lyric that should immediately follow into the chat window. This option gives a colleague enough time to go through the answers data and give back participants' scores.
Fancy going bigger? Upgrade your virtual event to a full band experience. Four skilled musicians play the clues live-streamed to your venue, and your guests can interact with the host and each other to guess the answer. Fun, engaging and highly entertaining, the Virtual Music Quiz Night is a perfect addition to your online event.
What is the setup?
The show is broadcast from a studio with professional lights and audio interface/mixing setup. There is one camera capable of capturing 4K, but for live streams, the preference is 1080p. The virtual quiz can stream on Zoom, MS Teams or Google Hangouts. However, are artist has noticed that the sound quality is slightly worse on Zoom. Your emcee for the night is also an experienced sound technician so should be able to sort any technical glitches quite quickly.
How long is each session?
Anything up to one hour.
How many people can take part?
If our quizmaster is conducting the call, then he's limited to 300 guests on Zoom. If he is dialling into another company's call, then there is no maximum number of participants. It is important to remember that everyone must have their microphones muted for others to be able to hear/see the feed correctly. There might need to be an administrator in charge of muting participants' in larger groups if this starts interrupting the flow of the performance.
Do guests need anything to be able to participate?
Your guests only need a computer with internet access. For some rounds, it can be helpful if they have a mobile as well as their laptop so that they can take photos of the screen when images are displayed, but this isn't essential.
Is the show interactive?
The show is highly interactive; the host can read the comments in the chat window and can answer any questions or potentially repeat things.
How can this experience be customised?
The music quiz is one hundred per cent customisable. Depending on scheduling, our quiz compere ideally needs a week to put new material together — any bespoke requests on a case by case basis.
Can the show be pre-recorded?
With at least 24 hours notice, this fun quiz can be pre-recorded. Potential clients need to let the host know how it will be presented and the number of video files they require

The whole process was super easy and I got messages from so many great musicians and performers that I had a hard time choosing I would definitely book with Fix the Music again and I highly recommend them!"
