Jewish weddings

We are often asked what is the “normal” format of a Jewish wedding. The simple answer is that there isn’t one.

Any wedding is a special event designed to meet the requirements of a bride and groom as they come together on their special day and a Jewish wedding is the same.

Your Jewish wedding can be as traditional or contemporary as you desire. We can help you mix traditional Jewish dances with contemporary dances and secular music.

You as the bride and groom should choose what to include in your special day based on how traditional the wedding festivities will be.

Modern couples may decide to devote a part of their Jewish wedding reception music to participating in classic traditional dances.

This decision will often rest upon the couple’s own wishes, requests from the family or the number of guests who are familiar with more traditional Jewish wedding dances.

If you discuss your wishes and feelings with us then we can help you decide on the best format for your Jewish wedding.

Music for the Chuppah Ceremony

For the Chuppah ceremony many clients like to have traditional, live music which will normally come in the form of a duo or a trio.

Traditionally this would be a clarinet, accordion and double bass. Getting the music right for the Chuppah is paramount and our repertoire is always selected with great care.

City Lights Showband's specialist Klezmer Trio are a traditional Jewish music band can play 15 to 20 minutes while your guests arrive to be seated.

They can play music throughout the ceremony where requested and at the end of the ceremony while the guests adjourn to the drinks reception.

The band is acoustic and therefore mobile allowing them to play their instruments whilst leading the guests into the reception room and then carry on with a Simcha set of music.

Bar or Bat Mitzvah party

As an experienced party band we can provide the required blend of music and entertainment for your Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah party.

We are competent in performing a large selection of traditional Israeli music for dancing and can provide written testaments from previous clients confirming that we are well-versed in the formalities of Jewish events.

We will provide a fun and exciting evening with songs to keep the younger generation entertained, whilst maintaining the balance so that you, your family and your friends can enjoy themselves too.

Our versatility enables us to perform not only Jewish music but songs from the 1950’s right through to today’s chart hits, liaising closely with you from booking up to the event in order to ensure that we provide you with an appropriate combination of live music and entertainment that you and your guests will really enjoy.

Our extensive playlist includes our main playlist plus a selection of Israeli music suitable for your event.

"These guys performed at our wedding recently. The process of booking them was incredibly smooth and they communicated brilliantly with us before the day. They let us have input in the set list and were incredibly flexible. They did a stunning Israeli dancing set, as well as their usual fabulous stuff. They really know how to get people up on the dance floor and moving, they are so incredibly tight as a band and each member is outstanding in their own right. Their singers got on the floor with us and really got involved with the guests. They were professional, fun and lively throughout and I'd recommend them for any event you're planning!"

"James and I would like to thank you for the most fantastic evening we had at our wedding, you were simply brilliant. Everyone from my 90 year grandmother a 4 year little girl loving the opportunity you gave her to sing was just lovely; the music spanning all generations. Everyone of our guests commented on how talented and how great the music was and how much they enjoyed themselves. You made a very special day even more special, everyone dancing all night long!"

"City Lights Showband played at our recent wedding reception at Great Fosters in Egham. We are so pleased that we booked them. We got good advice from Geoff the manager before the wedding to make sure it all went smoothly and the band on the night were amazing. The sound was perfect, the playlist had everyone on the dance floor through their whole sets which can prove quite difficult with a bar next door. The music was out of this world and Adam and Leslie on vocals were unbelievable. I think our guests at times thought they were at a concert. The way Adam interacted with all of the guests was so unique - they orchestrated the cutting of the cake and the throwing of the bouquet making an amazing spectacle. We were so thrilled and all of our guests have commented on the band since. Thank you guys for making our wedding reception so memorable, unique and brilliant. Xxxx"

"City Lights Showband are quite simply The Best Wedding Band I have ever seen. They played at our best friend's wedding last weekend and the dance floor was packed from start to finish. They are, without exception, unbelievably talented musicians, their repertoire is excellent, the segueing between tracks seamless, their performance levels of the highest quality. Every aspect of their performance is tight, considered, impressive - just sheer Top Class. And on top of that, just a brilliant fun, lively and lovely bunch of people with the most infectious energy. A joy to have witnessed them and I wouldn't hesitate for a second in booking them."

"Geoff and band thank you for making our big day a truly memorable night! I've lost count of the Facebook posts that stated that you guys were the best band at a wedding they had ever seen.... Including their own weddings!! My Mum said it felt more like a concert than a wedding and mate stated at the time he had never seen so many people on a dance floor at a wedding so early! A special thanks for the fantastic rendition of Shelley's favourite song - Groovin by The Rascals.... You earnt me huge brownie points for surprising her with that one! Thanks again and when we have a big anniversary party, don't be surprised if you get a call from us !!! Thanks to you and all the band again!!!!! "We wanted to thank you and the guys for providing the fantastic music at our wedding! After listening to your showreel we just knew nothing else would compare and we simply had to have City Lights Showband! You kept all of us thoroughly entertained and performed our first dance song so beautifully. It certainly wasn’t the most comfortable of evenings with the sweltering weather but we sure did party anyway! Thanks again for making our evening one to remember! Thanks again for everything, we loved it! Sarah and Alastair."

"City Lights Showband performed last week at our wedding and they were AMAZING. Thank you for the entertainment and getting everyone on the dance floor. I would highly recommend this band for weddings. They placed a mix of music to suit all age groups and their voices are amazing. Geoff was amazing to work with and went into so much detail when you spoke on the phone with him and make sure everything was covered. Thank you for making it the best evening for us."
