I just wanted to pop a note over to say how amazing the band and DJ were
Hi James, I just wanted to pop a note over to say how amazing the band and DJ were. Everyone absolutely loved them and the band really made the night! So much fun. Please pass on my thanks and feedback to the band... we’d have them back in a heartbeat! Thank you for all your help in the arrangements - it went seamlessly. Literally in the office all day, all I’ve heard is how amazing the band were - the guys smashed it! Hannah.
Fabulous!
Fabulous! The guys were extremely helpful from first contact and fulfilled our every request down to the smallest detail. Professional throughout the ceremony, and impeccable with the music we requested! Our choice of sax was repaid by their skill. I recommend them to everyone. Thank you for making our wedding an unforgettable celebration!
What I witnessed on Saturday was truly remarkable...
Hi James and NOMAD team, What I witnessed on Saturday was truly remarkable and this data should be used in the form of some sort of science experiment. We booked you guys over a year ago and our aim was to make the dinner part of our wedding a little more interesting. Thank you so so much for everything, you were professional, helpful and an absolute blast from the moment we booked to the moment you left. Please pass our thanks on to everyone involved, the band members and the people behind the scenes for putting together something that will live with us forever. Thank you! Anthony & Alejandra.
Wow, where do I start? Luna Showband and Night Magic took our breath away...
Wow, where do I start? Luna Showband and Night Magic took our breath away. The most compliments I ever had on the wedding were the band and the singers. People just stared, as they couldn’t believe it. My mother-in-law who is from Canada said, we just don’t get talent like this in Canada! She was so happy. It was just phenomenal. The kids from Arizona who are spoilt and have seen every kind of wedding said it was the best music they have ever seen. It was truly out of this world!! I can’t believe you mastered the bee gees voice and did Night Fever, it was amazing!! When you called us to the stage to stand up there with you, we felt like legends and part of the band!! I will never forget it!! So epic!! Every time I remember those times on the dance floor, we beam with happiness!
Most ceilidh bands on this page specialise in traditional Scottish and Irish dancing: jigs, reels, hornpipes, polkas, slip-jigs, strathspeys and waltzes. The standard lineup is fiddle, accordion or flute, guitar and a caller who teaches the steps, with optional bodhran drum, tin whistle, hammered dulcimer and bagpipes. Popular dances include The Dashing White Sergeant, The Gay Gordons, Strip the Willow, Cumberland Square Eight, Canadian Barn Dance, Highland Schottische and The Eightsome Reel.
Many Herefordshire couples want the best of both worlds: traditional ceilidh dancing to get all ages involved, followed by pop and rock covers to keep the party going. Bands like Ceilidh Twist, Ramnee Ceilidh Band and Paragon Ceilidh Band all offer combined ceilidh and covers packages, typically as a 4- or 5-piece band with drums, bass, fiddle and a caller who also sings. The format works well in Herefordshire's barn venues, where the same space serves as both dance floor and stage. Expect to pay from around £1,700 for a 4-piece ceilidh and covers band and from £2,200 for a 5-piece, including PA and a caller.
Several of our bands specialise in authentic Scottish ceilidh, including The Gay Gordons, Strip the Willow, the Dashing White Sergeant and the Eightsome Reel. This is a popular choice for Scottish couples marrying at Herefordshire venues, where guests travelling from north of the border expect the real thing. Willow Ceilidh Band and Keep Calm and Ceilidh both offer dedicated Scottish ceilidh sets alongside English and Irish dance tunes.
Beyond traditional ceilidh, our bands also play English barn dances, American hoedowns, Welsh twmpathau and Irish ceili sets. The Bristol Ceilidh Band, based just across the Severn Bridge, regularly performs in Herefordshire and offers a mix of English, Scottish, Irish and American dance tunes with a caller who adapts the difficulty to suit your guests. Many bands also provide a DJ or disco service as an add-on, typically two live sets followed by a curated playlist through their PA system.
Prices for ceilidh bands in Herefordshire depend on band size, number of sets and travel distance.

Based on confirmed bookings through FixTheMusic, traditional ceilidh bands cost between £850 and £1,500 for Herefordshire weddings. Ceilidh and covers bands (with drums and a pop/rock party set) cost from £1,700 to £2,700. Prices depend on band size, number of sets and travel distance. London-based bands will factor in travel, typically adding £200 to £400, while The Bristol Ceilidh Band, based just across the Severn Bridge, has lower travel costs to Herefordshire and averages around £853.
Herefordshire couples book their ceilidh band an average of seven months before the wedding, based on our enquiry data. For a Saturday in August or September, which are the most popular months for ceilidh weddings in the county, aim for 8 to 12 months ahead. Outside peak season, 3 to 6 months is usually enough. One couple booked a ceilidh band just two days before their wedding at The Shack Revolution in Hereford, so last-minute bookings are possible, particularly for midweek or off-peak dates.
The most-requested format in Herefordshire is ceilidh and covers combined. Several couples enquiring through FixTheMusic specifically asked for a band that can play traditional ceilidh dancing followed by pop and rock covers. Ceilidh Twist, Ramnee Ceilidh Band and Paragon Ceilidh Band all offer this format, typically as a 4- or 5-piece band with drums, bass, fiddle and a caller who also sings. Expect to pay from around £1,700 for a 4-piece and from £2,200 for a 5-piece, including PA and a caller.
Our bands have performed at barn and manor house venues across the county, including Dewsall Court near Hereford, Brinsop Court Manor House, Homme House at Much Marcle and Hellens Manor in Ledbury. These converted barn spaces work well for ceilidh dancing but check a few things with your venue: Dewsall Court does not provide an in-house PA system, so your band will need to bring their own. Homme House and Brinsop Court both have barns with enough floor space for ceilidh dancing, but clear tables and chairs to maximise the dance floor.
Yes. One couple marrying at Dewsall Court specifically asked for no lifting motions in any of the dances, as they had a fair number of older guests. Experienced callers can choose simpler dances, avoid lifts and spins, and adapt the pace to suit mixed-age crowds. Mention any accessibility needs when enquiring and the band will tailor their set accordingly. Ceilidh is naturally inclusive: the caller teaches every dance on the night, so no prior experience is needed.
Several couples enquiring through FixTheMusic have been Scottish couples marrying at Herefordshire venues, looking for an authentic ceilidh for guests travelling from north of the border. Bands like Willow Ceilidh Band and Keep Calm and Ceilidh offer dedicated Scottish ceilidh sets with The Gay Gordons, Strip the Willow, the Dashing White Sergeant and the Eightsome Reel. Ramnee Ceilidh Band perform in kilts and bring a Scottish caller to lead the dancing.
Most ceilidh bands perform 2 or 3 sets of 45 minutes with around 30-minute breaks in between. Based on Herefordshire enquiries through FixTheMusic, the most common timing is 8pm to 11pm or 7:30pm to 10:30pm, with the ceilidh starting after the wedding breakfast. Many bands also offer a DJ or playlist disco through their PA system to keep the evening going after the live sets finish. Ceilidh Twist charges £150 for an "iPod disco" option, letting you play your own playlist through their PA for up to two hours after the band finishes.
Bands perform traditional Scottish and Irish ceilidh dances including The Dashing White Sergeant, The Gay Gordons, Strip the Willow, Cumberland Square Eight, Canadian Barn Dance, Highland Schottische, The Military Two Step and the Pride of Erin Waltz. Other popular dances include St Bernard's Waltz, Rebecca's Roundabout, The Big Set Mixer, The Oxo Reel and The Eightsome Reel. If you have a preference for Scottish, Irish or English traditions, mention this when enquiring and the band will tailor their set.
Ceilidh bands bring all their own instruments and usually their own PA system and lighting. Some Herefordshire venues, including Dewsall Court, do not provide an in-house PA, so check with your venue before booking. Most bands charge less if you provide some equipment yourself. All musicians on FixTheMusic carry public liability insurance and PAT tested equipment.
Ceilidh dancing usually requires about 25 to 30 guests on the dance floor simultaneously, so we recommend at least 50 to 60 guests at your event. One couple at Dewsall Court had fewer than 100 guests in a barn that can fit up to 170, which gave plenty of room for dancing. Some guests will only take part in a few dances or prefer to watch, so a larger guest count ensures a full dance floor.
