Getting Bands to Capri: Ferries, Transfers and Logistics
Capri is only accessible by sea, which adds a layer of logistics that mainland wedding venues don't have.
UK-based bands flying in for a Capri wedding typically fly into Naples airport, take a hydrofoil or ferry from Naples port to Capri (around 40-80 minutes), then transfer to their hotel before heading to the venue. For example, when The Upshots performed at Il Riccio, the wedding planner arranged for the band to land at Naples at 12:35, take the 2:00pm hydrofoil, arrive at their hotel by 4:30pm, then transfer to the venue for a sound check. On departure day, the hydrofoil back to Naples departs at 6:50am to connect with a 10:35am flight.
If you are booking a UK-based band, ask your wedding planner to coordinate the ferry schedule with the band's flights. The Italian Roamers, who travelled from Milan to perform at Il Riccio, were confirmed at €5,200 including travel and accommodation.
Most bands performing on Capri arrive the day before the wedding to allow for travel delays, which means covering one night's accommodation before the event. Locally-based acts such as Capri Sax and The Naples Swing Band travel from within Campania and don't require the same ferry logistics.
Sound Equipment and PA Hire in Capri
Most bands travelling to Capri do not bring their own sound system. It is impractical to transport PA equipment on flights and ferries.
The Italian Roamers, who travelled from Milan to perform at Il Riccio, explained they could bring their own wireless microphones but needed a local audio company to provide speakers, a mixing console and a technician.
The Amalfi Wedding Singer sent her technical rider to the wedding planner ahead of her Capri wedding at Villa Galeotta, and asked the planner to confirm microphone arrangements.
If your venue does not provide a PA system, your wedding planner will usually be able to source one from a local supplier on the island or in Naples.
Some venues, such as Villa Galeotta at Marina Grande (a private villa), allow amplified music with no restrictions, but other venues may have sound limiters or noise restrictions. Ask your planner to confirm.
Capri Sax, who is based on the island, is one of the few acts who can bring his own small speaker for cocktail hour or boat sets, but for full bands this is the exception rather than the norm.
Sound Checks and Venue Timings on Capri
Capri venues often require sound checks earlier in the day rather than just before the evening performance.
When The Upshots performed at Il Riccio, the venue manager requested the sound check at 1:00pm. The band arrived at Capri pier, went straight to the venue to set up and sound check, then returned to their hotel to relax before coming back to the venue at 9:00pm for the evening performance. This is common practice on Capri because venues may have lunch service or other events earlier in the day, and the venue needs the performance space clear during service.
If your band is arriving by ferry on the day of the wedding, build in time for the sound check before the evening. For weddings at clifftop venues like Hotel Caesar Augustus or the Gardens of Augustus, outdoor ceremony setups may also require an earlier sound check to take advantage of daylight.
Discuss the timing with your wedding planner and venue coordinator well in advance. The band will need to know what time to arrive on the island.
